Fire in the Sky (Robert Lieberman, 1993)

Fire in the Sky scared all the crap out of me on VHS in the 1990s. But seeing it again last weekend reminded me that only Travis Walton's abduction flashback terrifies and it takes up ten minutes of screen time. And it truly is terrifying, a perfect balance between sci-fi and horror. Up until that point, though, it's 90 minutes or so of windup. And not helping it go down is Mark Isham's score which aerates all manner of triumphalist pablum.
